As and industry, TPAs have traditionally been slow to act on almost everything. Think about some of our ground-breaking technologies over the years and how long it has taken us to get them up and running:
- Electronic claims
- Claims imaging
- Wellness programs
- Web sites
If Apple moved as slow as TPAs we would still be listening to I-Tapes instead of I-Tunes.
Health care reform and personnel wellness are topics on every news channel. Not a day goes by that some politician isn't making statements that directly reflect on the services we offer. How long has it been since our industry has had this much press?
Example: How many of you saw what President Obama's cholesterol level was the other day? How many of your clients, brokers and their insured's saw the same thing? Do you think this would be a good time to send out communications to your client base asking what their cholesterol level is now? Do you think this would be a good time to promote your wellness programs? Do you think this would be good time to move faster than your competition or the BUCAs? I think so.
As individual organizations we need to invest some time in getting our message out. Even if you do not reach any new markets, at least you can remind your current clients of the value you can add and if you work with brokers and consultants, they will be reminded that they can bring more value to their clients with the tools that you can provide.
I have to go, I have new marketing ideas to work on...
